Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], August 1 (ANI): Opposition members have slammed BJP MP Anurag Thakur over his remarks on the leader of the opposition and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the Parliament.
Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Shivpal Yadav commented on Thakur’s statement on Thursday and said that when the party sought the caste census, it was an issue of the society. Further, he said that the remark made about Rahul Gandhi was personal, and action should have been taken action against the MP.
Speaking to ANI, he said “When we sought caste census, this was the issue of society. In Lok Sabha, the remark that was made about Rahul Gandhi was personal, the Speaker should have taken action against that MP.”
Further, he added, if something like this was done by an opposition leader, he would have been removed from the Parliament. Since it was done by someone from the ruling party, no action has been taken.
Yadav said, “If something like this was done by an opposition leader, he would have been removed from the Parliament. Since they are the ruling party, no action has been taken.”
Previously, on Wednesday, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi had said that Anurag Thakur’s statement was condemnable, adding that these are the people who want to mould the country in a way that is politically convenient for them.
She said, “The country needs us to rise above religion and caste and serve the nation, serve Bharat Mata. Our caste is to serve the nation and our religion is to take Bharat Mata ahead. These are people who want to mould the country in a way that would be politically convenient for them…What he said is condemnable, I hope his leaders make him apologise.”
Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury said, “This is the nature of Thakur ji. You can understand his mindset. If he can speak by stooping to such a level, it means you have a weak foundation.” (ANI)
