Panchkula (Haryana) [India], October 3 (ANI): Uttarakhand Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) on Thursday interacted with ex-servicemen at Chandimandir Military Station, headquarters of Western Command, Panchkula in Haryana.
During his visit, Gen Singh said they discussed Agnipath Sheme, calling it a transformative initiative for the nation’s defence forces.
Speaking on the Agniveer scheme, he told ANI, “…For the first 10 years, I was trained in Sainik School. After that, I have served in the Army for about 40 years. I tell every Agniveer that it is God’s grace that you are getting a chance to join the Army. Once you join the national army, then your full responsibility will definitely be with the Army…” .

In a post on X, the Uttarakhand Governor said, “Interacted with ex-servicemen at Chandimandir Military Station, HQ Western Command, Panchkula, where we discussed several key issues related to their welfare and well-being. Ex-servicemen hold a special place in my heart and are truly an extension of my family.”

“It fills me with immense pride and happiness to see that every member of this honourable community continues to express a strong desire to contribute to the betterment of the country and society at large,” he said.
General Singh said, “We also discussed the Agnipath scheme, a transformative initiative for the nation’s defence forces. I firmly believe that the training and capabilities of Agniveers are of the highest caliber, and their inclusion will infuse a fresh wave of youthful energy into the army. This scheme is pivotal to nation-building and the strengthening of #NationalSecurity. By enhancing youth representation within the armed forces, it not only fortifies our military but also instills a spirit of healthy competition, inspiring the next generation of leaders and defenders.””
“The Agnipath scheme is the nation’s commitment to empowering its youth while strengthening its defence, ensuring a secure and prosperous future for all,” he added.
The visit comes ahead of the assembly polls in Haryana scheduled for October 5. (ANI)
