Bahraich (Uttar Pradesh) [India], September 3 (ANI): The Forest Department is using drones to monitor the areas in Mahsi Tepra village of Bahraich, amid a wolf scare in the district.
Sanjay Pathak, General Manager of the Forest Department said, “The team are working here, drones are being used to monitor locations in potential areas, cages have been set up at those locations. Efforts are underway. We need everyone’s cooperation…We need to be alert now…Three drones are being operated from here…4 of the 6 wolves have been captured, and 2 remain at large.”
The residents of Kulaila village are carrying out patrolling with sticks to guard themselves given the wolf attacks.
Police on Tuesday held a meeting in the Purva village under the Hardi Police station area, about ways to protect themselves from the man-eating wolf.
“They explained to us to stay alert to protect ourselves. Everyone is aware… The police asked us to stay inside our homes or on the rooftops and keep the doors closed… We are scared and there is a fear… We are staying awake and alert… The Police are also active…,” Uday Pratap, a resident of Purva village told ANI.
“They asked us to stay in and on rooftops and stay awake. And if we want to go out, we should be in groups of 2-3… Why is it (wolf) not getting caught… It has been two months… How long will we stay awake? It affects our health… There is awareness among us but catching the wolf is more important…” Deshraj, a resident of Purva village said.
Meanwhile, the total number of people who have sustained injuries in the alleged wolf attacks in the Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh has risen to 34, a doctor at the Community Health Centre in Mahasi said on Tuesday.
Speaking to ANI, the Superintendent of the Mahasi Community Health Centre, Dr Ashish Verma said, “We have a list of a total of 34 persons who were injured in animal attacks. All have been treated while two of them were referred to the District Hospital in Bahraich. We had inquired about their situation, and both of them are stable.”
The Uttar Pradesh Police and the Forest Department are continuing their search for two wolves under ‘Operation Bhediya’ in Bahraich district. The forest department had earlier caught four wolves. The pack of wolves is said to be behind several attacks on villagers in the region.
Earlier, a three-year-old girl was killed and two other women were injured in another wolf attack, spreading anger among the locals, who blamed the administration for showing negligence in their work. (ANI)
