Firozabad (Uttar Pradesh) [India], October 2 (ANI): At least 14 women were injured when a wall collapsed during a funeral in Kamalpur Rakhavli in Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad on Wednesday, officials said.
According to officials, the incident occurred after a woman from the village passed away at New Aakash Hospital.
After her body was brought back to the village for the final rights, many family members, relatives, and neighbours gathered to mourn.
“It was during this gathering that the wall collapsed, trapping over 14 women under it,” they said.
Upon receiving information, locals and police reached the sport and rescued the victims and took them to the hospital.
Jasrana Sub Divisional Magistrate Shivdhyan Pandey said, “The women from Kamalpur Rakhwali had gathered at the house to express their grief. They were sitting against a weak wall, which suddenly collapsed, injuring several of them. All the injured were immediately taken to the district hospital.”
He further said that all the injured were rushed to the government trauma centre for treatment, where X-rays are being conducted to assess the severity of their injuries.
“The condition of all injured women is stable, and they are out of danger. Fourteen women were injured. One of them has been discharged after receiving first aid, while 13 others are still being treated at the hospital. Those with serious injuries, especially to the head or neck, are under observation and receiving special care,” he added.
Riyazuddin, the brother-in-law of the deceased, said, “Our sister-in-law died during delivery at New Aakash Hospital. After her post-mortem was done, we brought her body home. Many family members, relatives, and neighbours were present at the house. Suddenly, the wall collapsed, burying 15-16 women.”
“My mother is in critical condition; she is unconscious and on oxygen. Doctors from the Government Trauma Centre, Kamalpur, are attending to her,” he added.
Further details are awaited. (ANI)
