Siliguri (West Bengal) [India], October 8 (ANI): The Siliguri Metropolitan Police (SMP) has heightened security across the city ahead of the Durga Puja celebrations. Authorities are taking extra precautions to prevent any untoward incidents during the festivities, with special measures in place, according to sources.
A meeting was held by the Siliguri Metropolitan Police with relevant agencies to ensure proper security arrangements. Speaking to ANI, C Sudhakar, Commissioner of Police, Siliguri Metropolitan Police, outlined the extensive security plan.
The Commissioner said, “We have seven major puja events, six of which are licensed. You are all aware of the public festivities, and we have deployed 2,000 police personnel. In addition, we have a dedicated anti-crime team and two Pink Nobel teams for women’s safety, with a specific number for the Pink Nobel service.”
He added, “We also have two business teams operating in two zones, and drones will be used to capture images and videos of the entire event. We hope this year’s puja will be grand. Given our proximity to the international border, we have coordinated with the BSF, SSB, ITBP, and other central agencies to ensure border security. The police are with you to ensure your safety.”
Around 2,000 police personnel have been deployed across key areas in Siliguri, including streets and highways, to maintain peace and safety during the celebrations. Security cameras have been installed at major locations, including Puja pandals, to enhance surveillance.
In addition to the police force, assistance booths have been set up at important spots to help the public. Quick response teams have also been formed to address emergencies promptly. The police are committed to ensuring smooth and safe celebrations for all.
The SMP has coordinated with various security forces, including the Border Security Force (BSF), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), to ensure security along the international border areas near Siliguri. (ANI)
