New Delhi [India], August 27 (ANI): A man wanted in 7 criminal cases, including 3 cases of murder, has been arrested after a brief exchange of fire between the accused and police officials in Gokalpuri, confirmed Delhi police officials on Tuesday. The accused has sustained one gunshot injury below his knee on his left leg.
The accused has been identified as 42-year-old Ravi (alias Rinku). He is the main accused in a murder case in the Gokalpuri area. Ravi also has other cases of alleged dacoity, extortion, criminal assault and possession of illegal firearms registered against him in various police stations.
According to the police officials, Ravi had allegedly murdered 44-year-old Neeraj Arora by slitting his throat on August 24 in Gokalpur village, Delhi. The police team led by Inspector Praveen Kumar, SHO of Gokalpur, had been tracking his movements ever since the murder.
On Monday, Delhi police received information that Ravi would be coming to the Gokalpuri area. The accused was intercepted late night on August 26. According to the police officials, the accused started firing at the police party intercepting him. In retaliatory firing, Ravi sustained one injury on his left leg, after which the accused was arrested. No other casualties were reported.
One pistol containing one live round in the chamber and one stolen motorcycle were recovered from the possession of the accused.
Three more people accused in the Neeraj Arora case have been arrested so far. The other three accused have been identified as 38-year-old Ravi, 35-year-old Bhupender (Jalim) and 37-year-old Neeraj Kumar.
According to the police, the deceased and the accused had an argument in a park near Loni Gol Chakkar during a drinking session, after which the alleged attack and subsequent murder took place.
The accused has been booked under relevant sections of BNS, BNSS and the Arms Act for firing at the police party and resisting arrest.
The accused has been taken to the GTB Hospital and undergoing treatment. (ANI)
