New Delhi [India], August 2 (ANI): The Leader of the Opposition in Himachal Pradesh, Jairam Thakur on Friday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and apprised him of the situation after a catastrophic flood destroyed parts of the state.
In a post on X, Thakur said that PM Modi has assured him of every possible help from the Central government in fighting the disaster.
“I met Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi ji and congratulated him on behalf of the state for leading the country for the third time. We gave complete information to the Prime Minister about the tragedy that occurred in Himachal Pradesh. Prime Minister Modi Ji assured full cooperation to Himachal Pradesh in dealing with this tragedy and said that other central forces including NDRF have been immediately deployed for relief and rescue work. Whatever resources will be required in future to deal with the tragedy will also be made available immediately by the Central Government,” Thakur said on X.
“The Prime Minister also called upon the Bharatiya Janata Party workers and public representatives to join in the relief and rescue work and provide all possible help to the affected people. I am thankful to the Prime Minister and the Central Government for supporting Himachal Pradesh in relief and rescue operations during this disaster period,” the BJP leader added.
Earlier today, the state government, led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, has mobilized extensive rescue and relief efforts. The disaster, triggered by a cloud burst, has left a trail of destruction in its wake, particularly affecting regions around Manali.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, addressing the media amidst ongoing rescue operations, emphasized the gravity of the situation. “The rescue and relief operation is underway in full swing,” he stated, highlighting the urgent need to locate and rescue those still trapped and missing.
The flood, which struck with unexpected ferocity, has claimed numerous lives and caused substantial damage to infrastructure, including roads crucial for connectivity.
The Chief Minister acknowledged the tireless efforts of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Army teams, and local authorities in managing the crisis on the ground. (ANI)
