New Delhi [India], August 1 (ANI): Lok Sabha Secretariat on Thursday said that there was minor leakage of water in the Lobby of the new Parliament Building following heavy rains in Delhi as adhesive material used to fix glass domes was slightly displaced and corrective measures were taken immediately Lok Sabha Secretariat on Thursday said that there was minor leakage of water in the Lobby of the new Parliament Building following heavy rains in Delhi as adhesive material used to fix glass domes was slightly displaced and corrective measures were taken immediately..
It also said that accumulated water opposite Makar Dwar of the Parliament building got drained out quickly.
In a press release, the Lok Sabha Secretariat referred to media reports that heavy rains in Delhi on Wednesday caused water leakage into the Lobby of the newly-inaugurated Parliament Building, raising concerns about the weather resilience of the structure.
The release said that it has also been reported that water logging was noticed around the premises, particularly near the New Parliament’s Makar Dwar, with several videos of the water logging going viral on social media platforms.
The release said that that keeping in view the concept of Green Parliament, glass domes have been provided in several parts of the Parliament Building, including in the Lobby, so that abundant natural light could be utilized in day to day work of the Parliament.
“During the heavy rain on Wednesday, the adhesive material used to fix the glass domes over the Lobby of the Building was slightly displaced, causing minor leakage of water in the Lobby. The problem was, however, detected timely and corrective measures were taken immediately. Thereafter, no further leakage of water has been noticed. Similarly, accumulated water opposite Makar Dwar also got drained out quickly,” the release said.
Congress MP Manickam Tagore gave an adjournment notice in Lok Sabha on Thursday regarding water leakage in the Parliament Lobby.
He said that water leakage highlights “potential issues with the building’s weather resilience, just one year after its completion.”
Manickam Tagore proposed forming a committee, including MPs from different parties, to inspect the building thoroughly to address the issue.
Opposition MPs including Priyanka Chaturvedi of Shiv Sena (UBT) and RJD’s Manoj Jha also referred to leakage in Parliament Lobby while participating in discussion in the Rajya Sabha on the demands for grants of the the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated the new Parliament building in May last year. (ANI)
