Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], October 1 (ANI): After a debate broke out on appointment of Udhyanidhi Stalin as the Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Congress MP Karti Chidambaram on Tuesday said that the Chief Minister has the right to induct anyone, to drop anyone and to promote anyone and he has acted well within his prerogative.
Chidambaram further dismissed all the arguments of dynasty politics by calling it “boring” and said that all political parties have similar dynamics and the DMK is no different.
“This (dynasty politics) is a boring argument and an argument which we hear ever so often. All political parties have similar dynamics and the DMK is no different. The decision taken by the Chief Minister is well within his prerogative. The CM has the right to induct anyone, to drop anyone and to promote anyone. The CM has acted well within his prerogative,” Chidambaram said.
On Monday, AIADMK leader Kovai Sathyan criticised state government, saying that it is a perfect example of dynasty rule in the name of democracy.
“It is a perfect example of dynasty rule in the name of democracy. It is much larger than nepotism. In DMK, many senior ministers are awaiting the right opportunity to strike it big. The 2026 Tamil Nadu elections will see the alliance parties drifting away from DMK and DMK itself splitting into factions and one of the family members taking the lead,” said AIADMK leader Kovai Sathyan.
BJP national spokesperson Shezad Poonawalla hit out at the INDIA bloc on Sunday, claiming that the parties follow a “son rise model” by only making their sons or daughters get in positions of power to serve their family interests.
Multiple other BJP leaders criticised the elevation of Udhayanidhi Stalin as the deputy chief minister of Tamil Nadu, saying that such a decision exposes the ‘parivarvad’ and the dynastic politics of the INDI alliance parties.
Udhayanidhi was appointed Deputy Chief Minister on September 28. Previously, he held the position of Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development. In addition to his existing responsibilities, he will now take on the portfolio of planning and development. (ANI)
