Bhadrak (Odisha) [India], September 26 (ANI): The man suspected of killing a woman in Bengaluru whose body was cut into pieces and stored in a refrigerator of her house was found dead in Odisha, police said on Thursday. A sucide note was found beside the body of the accused Mukti Ranjan Roy.
Ranjan’s body was found in Odisha’s Bhadrak district. A team of Bengaluru had visited Odisha to probe the recent murder of the woman.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Bhadrak,Odisha Varun Guntupalli told ANI, “A team of Bangalore Police had come here to probe the recent murder of a woman there. The team said that the prime accused belonged to Bhadrak. Before the team could apprehend the accused, Muki Ranjan Roy died by suicide by hanging himself on Wednesday morning.”
“After post-mortem, the body was handed over to the accused’s family. We are cooperating with the Bangalore Police. A suicide note has been found in which he has admitted to committing the murder,” SP Guntupalli added. “A bag and a laptop has been found at the place of the scene.”
He said that a case of unnatural death has been registered at a police station.
Mother of deceased accused Roy, Kunjalata Ray alleged that that her son took this extreme step due to fear.
“He said he had fallen prey to that woman’s trap. She kept asking for money from him. I asked him why doesn’t flee from there (Bengaluru) by resigning from his job. He did this due to fear as the woman kept demanding money from him…”
The dismembered body of a 29-year-old woman was found stuffed in the refrigerator of the house she was living in at Vinayaka Nagar in Vyalikaval in Bengaluru on September 21. The woman identified as Mahalakshmi was living alone in the rented house for the last five months, as per police.
The body parts were found highly decomposed and worms were found in them, raising the suspicion that the murder could have taken place a fortnight ago. (ANI)
