Guwahati (Assam) [India], September 2 (ANI): The Assam Government has achieved a significant milestone in the state’s employment sector by fulfilling its 2021 election promise of providing 1 lakh government jobs, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Monday.
The announcement came after 23,956 appointment letters were handed over to new recruits, bringing the total number of government jobs created since 2021 to 1,24,345.

Taking to his social media handle on X, CM Sarma announced, “Assam has achieved another milestone. In 2021, we came to power promising 1 lakh government jobs. Today, with the handover of 23,956 appointment letters, Assam has offered 1,24,345 jobs till date. With this, we have fulfilled a longstanding demand of our teachers.”
“By May 2025, we will create 50,000 more jobs, taking the total jobs to 2 lakhs. Each of these jobs has been delivered without a single instance of corruption,” the post added.

The ceremonial distribution of permanent teacher appointment letters to 23,956 contractual teachers under Samagra Skiksha, was held at Khanapara Veterinary College Field in Guwahati.
Earlier, Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu posted on X and said, “Promise fulfilled! The teachers will be posted in the schools where they were previously serving as SSA/Statepool contractual teachers. Candidates on the ‘withheld’ list are advised to contact the Director of Elementary Education with their documents.”
“Following the High Court’s order in WA 291/2024 on 30th August, 2024, which lifted the stay on the advertisement dated 5th August 2024, for the Special Recruitment Drive for experienced SSA and State Pool contractual teachers, the Assam government is proceeding with the selection process. A total of 27790 candidates have applied, and the Education Department has completed the verification and selection process,” he said.
During the 2021 assembly polls in the state, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had promised to give one lakh government jobs in the state.
According to the government data, till August 26 this year, appointment letters were distributed to 1,00,389 candidates (including Government of Assam employees employed in Bodoland Territorial Council and Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council). (ANI)
