Guwahati (Assam) [India], October 2 (ANI): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday criticise the Congress for questioning the setting up of a semi-conductor plant in the state and said the region has become “a hub for a semiconductor revolution,” as the government has been able to compel companies to invest in the region.
Replying to criticism by Karnataka MLA Priyank Kharge, the Assam CM said in a post on X, “When a minister from Karnataka speaks about Assam and its semiconductor project, I can only sincerely thank God that in just 3 1/2 years, Assam has been elevated to a position where even Karnataka, one of the most advanced states in our country, recognises our achievements.”

Earlier on Tuesday, Priyank Kharge had questioned Bharatiya Janata Party leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Assam CM.
“CM @himantabiswa, PM @narendramodi and you protecting your respective State’s interests are considered “masterstrokes” and if I protect Karnataka’s interests, it is considered being anti- Assam?,” he said.
“Jokers of @BJP4Karnataka, do you agree on this? Hoping Sri. @BYVijayendra will share his invaluable insights on this. CM Sarma saab, Why don’t you ask your PM to be benevolent enough to give Assam 2, Karnataka 2 and Gujarat 1 semiconductor projects instead of arm twisting companies?” he added.
The Assam CM in response to the X had said that Assam Congress leaders must understand that Assam was once known for militancy but now the progress in the region is unstoppable.
“Assam Congress leaders must understand that Assam is now in a position to negotiate with major companies and compel them to invest here. Once known for militancy, Assam is now on the verge of becoming a hub for the semiconductor revolution,” the CM wrote.
On July 16, the Assam government handed over a state owned land site in Morigaon, where the Tata Group will set up a mega semiconductor plan. The site was formally handed over after a lease agreement, making way for the construction to commence soon.
It marked a significant milestone as the land agreement for Tata Group’s semiconductor project in Jagiroad, Morigaon district, was successfully finalised. The agreement, signed at the Sub-Registrar’s office, Morigaon leases 517.27 bighas of land to Tata Group for a duration of 60 years. (ANI)
