Andhra Pradesh [India], September 1 (ANI): Taking stock of the severe floods that have disrupted the state for days, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu conducted a review meeting with the concerned officials at the Andhra Pradesh Disaster Management Authority on Sunday.
For the last few days, heavy rains and severe floods have lashed the state, disrupting the flow of life in the state.
Heavy rainfall today led to severe flooding in the Rama Krishna Puram area of Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh, submerging houses and cars.
Police and NDRF teams have initiated rescue and relief operations, relocating affected residents to rehabilitation centres.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) also forecasted heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in the area today. They have also issued a weather warning for the next five days.
For the following four days, isolated places in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam are expected to experience thunderstorms with lightning.
Amid the heavy rainfall in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the South Central Railway has also cancelled over 20 trains and diverted more than 30 today due to water logging over the tracks at several locations.
Earlier today, Andhra Pradesh Human Resources Development Minister Nara Lokesh also visited flood-affected areas in Mangalagiri constituency to take stock of the rescue and relief measures taken by the government.
Lokesh visited the Ratnalcheruvu area in Mangalagiri town, which was severely impacted by heavy rainfall, and interacted with residents to understand their situation. He also enquired about the relief measures and ensured they were reaching everyone in need.
On Saturday, Naidu held a review meeting, instructing officials to remain vigilant and alert in rain-affected areas.
On the same day, a house in Mogalrajapuram collapsed due to a rock falling from a hill, resulting in the death of a woman. Two other women were hospitalised, and their condition was said to be stable. According to the officials, the house collapsed after a rock fell from the top of the hill amid heavy rainfall. (ANI)
