New Delhi [India], September 28 (ANI): Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), 92 stations within Northeast Frontier Railway’s (NFR) jurisdiction are being redeveloped with world-class modern amenities and facilities, said Chief Public Relations Officer Northeast Frontier Railway on Saturday.
Further, Rs10,369 crores have been allocated in the interim Budget 2024-25 for Railway infrastructure projects to enhance rail facilities in the zone. Kaliyaganj railway station in North Bengal, being one of the important stations among the list that comes under Katihar division of NFR, is undergoing a significant facelift under the scheme at a projected cost of Rs. 24.87 Cr, added CPRO.
Kaliyaganj railway station serves vast areas of the North Dinajpur district of West Bengal. About 62 per cent overall physical progress has been achieved for the various ongoing and proposed redevelopment works of the station. Recently, a remarkable milestone has been achieved with the completion of all physical works of a 12 meter wide foot-over bridge (FOB) at Kaliyaganj station. This modern FOB will enhance passenger mobility along with safety, featuring robust infrastructure with an ergonomic design to accommodate future infrastructural expansions, read the statement from CPRO further.
Along with this, additional ongoing development works related to passenger platform sheds, platform surfacing and station facade works with the display of local art & cultural sculptures are underway for the redevelopment of the station. The upgraded station will come up with improved building structures, better-circulating areas with comfortable seating arrangements for passengers, modern lifts and escalators for ease in connectivity within the station premises. The new station will also come up with a second entry to it whose development is under execution.
Such achievements further reflect NFR’s commitment towards improving passengers’ travelling experiences with quality and efficiency that will be witnessed through these revamped stations. Apart from FOBs, the station will also be facilitating other additional passenger amenities (including for differently able passengers) and structures that will modernize the entire facade of the station premises. Proper lighting with signages will be provided to make the station premises totally safe and easily accessible for each class of passengers, said CPRO.
The upgradation of this station will lead to the creation of new avenues which will lead to new employment, business opportunities and ease of travel for passengers. The upgraded station will act as the centre for socio-economic activities in the area thus promoting both connectivity and economic growth. (ANI)
